Press Release: Transitions Doula Services Now Accepts South Dakota Medicaid

Sioux Falls, SD – [7/3/25] — Transitions: Doula & Life Services is excited to announce that we are officially able to accept clients with South Dakota Medicaid coverage for birth and postpartum doula support. This exciting development makes our compassionate, skilled support services more accessible..

“We are thrilled to be able to expand our services to families who otherwise might not be able to receive doula support,” says Renee Forred, co-owner of Transitions.  “We know all families deserve access to this quality, evidence-based care.”

Owners Kelsie Thomas and Forred are part of the doula team, consisting of birth, postpartum, and end-of-life doulas; educators, encapsulators, and lactation professionals.

As of January 1st, 2025, South Dakota’s Medicaid program covers doula services as a way to improve maternal and infant outcomes—a change that aligns with Transitions’ mission to nurture an individual, enhance the family, and cultivate a community through team based support.

Families with Medicaid who are interested in doula services can contact Transitions: Doula & Life Services directly or ask their medical provider to complete a Medicaid referral.
